Architecture Days

The mission of Architecture Days is to heighten the recognition of architecture as an art form and to explore the rich architectural landscape of Dubuque through programming for all ages.

Architecture Days offers the public the opportunity to learn more about architecture and Dubuque’s historic fabric, celebrating our sense of place, our unique treasures, and the city’s growth through a commitment to architectural reuse and community.

Events are presented by Dubuque Main Street, in collaboration with the Carnegie-Stout Public Library, the Center for Dubuque History at Loras College, the City of Dubuque, Dubuque Community Schools, Mediacom, the Old House Enthusiasts, the National Mississippi River Museum, TH Media, the Dubuque County Historical Society, the Dubuque County Historic Preservation Commission, and the City of Dubuque’s Historic Preservation Commission.

 

For health and safety, there will be limited attendance and reservations required for certain events. Events italicized require reservations, click the italicized event to complete the reservation form.

Construction and Destruction

Build a tower using library-provided materials, then explore fun ways to knock it down. Pick up your Grab & Go bag at the Children’s Help Desk, for ages 6 and under.

Jackson Park Walking Tour

Founded in 1833 as the City Cemetery, the area now known as Jackson Park is rich in cultural and architectural history. Join us to explore residential, commercial, and religious architecture in the surrounding neighborhood. Tour led by Duane Hagerty & Jason Neises.

Dubuque Architecture Scavenger Hunt

This urban scavenger hunt is intended to increase your appreciation for architecture by highlighting some unique buildings and architectural elements that make up the fabric of our local communities.
Adventurers will find the locations of downtown Dubuque’s historical architectural treasures, enter the address, and submit for a chance to win a gift package.

Return the completed scavenger hunt by May 24 to dan@dubuquemainstreet.org or mail/drop it off at 1069 Main Street Dubuque

 

Architecture Themed Film with Kanopy!

Dubuque residents can log in to Kanopy and watch up to 10 movies a month. Just search for architecture as a topic!

Assemble and Decorate a Wooden Birdhouse

Make a wooden birdhouse with a laser cutter/engraver. You can also pick up a coloring sheet featuring historic Dubuque buildings. Visit carnegiestout.org for more information about these programs.
