Path to Potential
Tour the Potential on Central Avenue Corridor September 10, 2019
Dubuque Main Street is proud to present our first of two events from our Potential on Central initiative.
The Path to Potential will take place on Tues., Sep. 10, 4–6 p.m. for a self-guided tour of the 1400-2100 vacant buildings. Property owners and business owners are encouraged to offer information about storefronts during this timeframe. We encourage entrepreneurs, prospective property owners and realtors to participate in this FREE, no-commitment opportunity.
The Potential on Central initiative expanded from the Build-A-Better Block event held September 2018. This initiative is led by Dubuque Main Street to encourage economic revitalization of the Central Avenue Corridor through business micro-recruitment, support of historic property renovation and neighborhood promotion. The mission of Potential on Central is to create a distinctive, diverse and sustainable destination to live, work and play. Our goal is to have six currently vacant storefronts permanently filled, four façade renovation projects completed, twelve upper-story living units created (all by June 30, 2020), and six Main Street Loan Pool Loans (by Dec. 31, 2019).
To correspond with this event, Dubuque Main Street and our partners (listed below) are planning a “Central Express” event to be held Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 8–Dec. 22, 2019. It will focus on filling vacant storefronts with tenants, offer family-friendly activities, engage the local arts community, and line the streets with holiday decorations to illustrate the Potential on Central.
Potential on Central Initiative Partners include: the City of Dubuque, Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Works, Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, Travel Dubuque, Dubuque’s True North, Northeast Iowa Community College Small Business Development Center, Dubuque Bank & Trust, Fidelity Bank, MidWestOne Bank, Premier Bank, and U.S. Bank.
