Dubuque, Iowa is Committed to Creating Good Neighbors
Providing an opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another is a key way to improve relationships in the neighborhood and to create a safer environment. The Community Building Grant Program funds projects in our community’s low/moderate income neighborhoods to provide this opportunity. Projects funded include Music in Jackson Park, ice cream socials, and neighborhood block parties.
The City of Dubuque’s Neighborhood Development Specialist and can be reached at 563.589.4326. The Neighborhood Development Specialist helps neighborhoods organize and develop the resources needed to create and maintain a vital community. The specialist serves as a liaison to existing neighborhood associations, assists in the establishment of new associations, and provides technical assistance on neighborhood related issues.
Neighborhood Funding
The City of Dubuque provides various programs to assist neighborhood groups with funding their neighborhood improvement projects.
The Large Neighborhood Grant program provides grants of up to $5,000 for Neighborhood improvement projects in low/moderate income neighborhoods. This program has funded a number of public improvement projects such as neighborhood park improvements, neighborhood newsletters, streetscape improvements, tree planting projects, and out-of-school time programs for neighborhood youth. Competition for these grants is typically announced in January with applications due in the spring.
The Small Neighborhood Grants are available year-round. The grants provide up to $750 for improvement programs.
